The Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District (NNSWCD) is pleased to announce that two $1,000 scholarships are available to Northern Neck students majoring in or intending to major in any course curriculum related to natural resource conservation and/or environmental studies.
These scholarships are intended to promote and encourage the education of Virginia citizens in technical fields of natural resource conservation and/or environmental protection. All applicants for these particular scholarships must be residents of the Northern Neck. All applications, available through the NNSWCD, are due in the District office in Warsaw by Wednesday, March 1, 2017.
The first scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 was established in 2013 by the Northern Neck Soil & Water Conservation District. This scholarship is open to students accepted into or enrolled in ANY level of undergraduate study with a focus on natural resource conservation/environmental studies. NNSWCD will select the winner for this scholarship from applications it receives, and the scholarship will be administered through the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD). Individual recipients of scholarships may reapply for scholarship consideration in ensuing years.
The second scholarship, offered on a statewide, competitive basis by the VASWCD, will award four freshmen level scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. Each SWCD is to select one entering or current freshman applicant and forward the application to the VASWCD office for consideration. Four applicants from among the 47 statewide conservation districts will be awarded the scholarships.
Applicants may compete for both scholarships but must fill out EACH of the scholarship application forms. Detailed qualifications for each scholarship are explained in the specific application and guidelines form.
The forms can be found below and may be filled out, printed, mailed or hand delivered to the NNSWCD office. Applications are due Wednesday, March 1, 2017.
