NN Conservation District Adds New Scholarship Opportunity

The Northern Neck Soil and Water Conservation District (NNSWCD) announces that there are now three $1,000 scholarships available to Northern Neck students majoring in or intending to major in any course curriculum related to natural resource conservation and/or environmental studies. These scholarships are intended to promote and encourage the education of Virginia citizens in technical fields of natural resource conservation and/or environmental protection.  All applications are due in the District office in Warsaw by Friday, March 13, 2020 at 4:30PM.

The JC Berger Conservation Advancement Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000 was established in 2013 and is open to students with permanent residency within Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster, or Westmoreland counties, who will begin a full time, first year college curriculum in natural resource and/or environmental studies. The NNSWCD will select the winner for this scholarship from applications it receives, and the scholarship will be administered through the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Education Foundation (VASWCDEF).

The James Edward Minor Ag Stewardship Award, in the amount of $1,000 was established in 2019.  This scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate college students, with permanent residency within Northumberland, Richmond, Lancaster, or Westmoreland counties who are enrolled in a college level curriculum in natural resources and/or environmental studies. The NNSWCD will select the winner for this scholarship from applications it receives, and the scholarship will be administered through the Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Education Foundation (VASWCDEF).

The Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts Educational Foundation Scholarship is offered on a statewide, competitive basis by the VASWCD. Four $1,000 scholarship recipients will be chosen from applicants submitted from SWCDs across Virginia.  Each SWCD is to select one student entering college as a freshman in 2019, or a current freshman applicant and forward the application to the VASWCD office for consideration. Four applicants from among the 47 statewide conservation districts will be awarded the scholarships. Applicants must demonstrate an active interest in conservation. Selection will be based on scholastic ability, leadership qualities, and educational goals

Applicants may compete for both scholarships but must fill out EACH scholarship application form. Scholarship guidelines and applications may be filled out, printed and mailed to the NNSWCD office. All required paperwork such as original transcripts must be included in the application packet. Applications are due Friday, March 13, 2020. Late applications will not be considered.
